13 December 2012: The BNDES board of directors approved project finence of R$ 736,8 millon for the construction of the Santo Antônio do Jarí Dam.
Operation is planned for 2014.
The project would include a transmission line of close to 20 kilometers that would form a part of the interconnection of the Tucuruí-Macapá-Manaus circuit to the national grid.
The plant will meet energy demands for cellulose production related to the Jari Project.
Jari Energética is a subsidiary of Orsa group, owner of Jari Cellulose Project.
EDP sold 50% participation to China Three Gorges Corp. in 2013.

Two prehistoric sites were identified in the area (Ilha de Itapeuara and Petróglifo sites) and 11 litho-ceramic sites (Manoel Barbosa, Limoeiro, Nega, Itapeuara Island,Sr. Sebastião,o Santo Antônio, Vila de Santo Antônio, João Galinha, Island Sabão, and João Francisco sites).
Preliminary environmental license granted in 2009.
